Please note that any professional work required in addition to the free 30 minute consultation will have to be referred to one of the member firms of the SAIIPL. Such work will be charged for at the normal rates of the firm in issue.

SAIIPL Scholarship

The SAIIPL Council is in the process of setting up a bursary scheme to develop awareness of patent law among university students. Due to the unique nature of the scheme, it is taking some time to find an enthusiastic partner at one of the Universities. Fortunately, UNISA recently expressed a keen interest and has promised to assist in structuring a programme. In the meantime, the SAIIPL Council will once again be funding two law students from a previously disadvantaged background at R12 500 each to further their studies at the University of Pretoria for 2011.

Women's Day

The (SAIIPL) is celebrating National Women's Day on 12 August yearly by hosting a lunch for members of the Institute and will be raising funds.

The organisers are Vicky Stilwell and Mandy Gordon and can be contacted through the Institue at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .

National Women's Day is an annual public holiday in South Africa on August 9. This day commemorates the national march of women on this day in 1956 to petition against legislation that required African persons to carry the "pass", special identification documents which curtailed an African's freedom of movement during the apartheid era.
