The South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL), was founded in 1954 and has 289 members. The members are either patent attorneys, patent agents or trade mark practitioners, specializing in the field of Intellectual Property law. The members typically represent law firms, but also include corporate law advisers and members of academia. SAIIPL is an important body for the promotion and regulation of intellectual property in South Africa and it has always had close ties with the Law Society of South Africa, with which it is affiliated. Of the 289 members, 108 are student members who are being trained to qualify as patent attorneys and/or trade mark practitioners. This is by far the largest number of student members, which reflects an increasing interest in Intellectual Property law. Further information for prospective students, including requirements and fees, may be found on SAIIPL's web site, which is www.saiipl.org.za.
SAIIPL is also accredited as being one of the official Dispute Resolution Providers in terms of the .ZA Dispute Resolution Regulations. In terms of its accreditation, SAIIPL has been regularly accepting and adjudicating domain name disputes relating to the highly popular .co.za domain name space. For further information on the lodging of domain name disputes, please visit SAIIPL's dispute resolution website at www.domaindisputes.co.za. |
