NO MORE CHANGES TO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAWS AMENDMENT BILL

Legalbrief: 03 May 2013

According to a report tabled in the National Assembly (NA) yesterday, having considered comments received from the National House of Traditional Leaders (NHTL) on the Intellectual Property Laws Amendment Bill, the NA's Committee on Trade and Industry is of the opinion that they do not 'materially differ' from comments presented to the committee by the NHTL in October 2010, reports Legalbrief Policy Watch. The committee has therefore recommended that the Bill should be adopted without further amendments, objections by the Democratic Alliance notwithstanding. Following concerns expressed last September by President Jacob Zuma regarding the Bill's constitutionality, it was eventually re-classified this week as a section 76 Bill.

MISSING REGISTERS AT NAMIBIAN REGISTRY
SAIIPL is assisting the Namibian Registry to reconstitute the missing Registers. Members are referred to the notice below received from the Namibian Registrar indicating which Register books are missing. All members should provide the information that they have on their database relating to the missing Register books, to Lindy Lowne-Hughes at DM Kisch Inc. The information must be provided in electronic format, preferably in Excel, to enable the Registry to copy and paste the information rather than retyping it.

The information provided will be directly captured into the electronic system at the Registry, without first being entered into physical register books. SAIIPL received written confirmation from the Registrar’s office that from the Registry’s side there will be a task team assigned that will ensure that the information provided is captured without delay.
